Y’all may have see this already, but I saw it as part of a presentation at SHRM in late June.
It blew me away. (click on the link to go to the viewo on You Tube)

One item donated to help my friend’s financial situation* was a tarot reading by Melissa Tarot.
Melissa Tarot has been doing tarot and palm readings for 22 years. She lives in the St. Louis area with her family and friends, and has been described as a ‘feminist, hippie, Pagan wackadoo’ – a title she bears proudly. Melissa has been on Sirius Radio and often works with Catherine Chapman of www.tarotelements.com. Melissa’s Tarot Readings – I already know you want one.
Melissa writes: “My philosophy on tarot is that the cards do not reveal information that you do not already know (even if only on an unconscious level). I use tarot as a tool to tap the subconscious — your inner self, to reveal hidden knowledge, passions, fears, hopes, goals and dreams on the verge of fulfillment.
By asking for a reading from me you understand that I will abide by my own personal reading philosophy and no others.
I prefer to read in person or over the phone or via chat through Skype or google chat. By winning this auction you will be given contact information to call or email to arrange an appointment for a reading.”
A typical reading is $45 for 30 to 45 minutes.
The item is listed on eBay for a starting price of $0.50 — please boost this signal and let people know that this BARGAIN is available and for a good cause.
thanks!

Imagine having to spend $50,000 to keep your loved one safe from harm. My friend is having to do that after discovering that his ex-wife remarried a man who is a registered sex offender. He’s been to court three times this year to gain and keep custody of his seven year old daughter. If he loses, his daughter will spend time living in a home with a man who is a — let me say it again — registered sex offender.
A group of us are getting together and auctioning off items to raise money to help pay his legal bills. This is one such item.
(warning: long post)
This is one of thew few times I wish WordPress had a /cut/ feature like they do over at LiveJournal. Oh well, you’ll just have to keep reading now, won’t you? Go ahead, get a cold drink, or warm one, depending on where you are. Maybe have a good *cough* pee while you’re up.
Comfy?
Yesterday I got to swim with my dog.
It’s a birthday treat from J., one that came up at the last minute. You see, ’round here normal humans don’t go in the water most days. When the days are at their hottest (above 80*) yes, we go in the lakes and such. But otherwise, it’s too darn chilly unless you have a wetsuit.
Sasha swims almost daily in a lake, that’s her main exercise. I could go in, too, but its too cold (already).
But! There’s a place nearby, aquadogspa (.com) where they do water therapy for dogs, and you can do ‘self swim’ sessions once the instructor is ok with water safety and the like.
So we went.
The pool was a lot smaller than I expected. I thought it’d be like a small swimming pool (25′ long), but it was more like a double-long jacuzzi. Maybe 12′ long? But there is a jet to make a current to swim against, and it was a balmy 94* (big grin!) and we went for it.
Sasha did not like getting into the water at first. We taught her ‘step’ as the command to go in on one side (where the steps were) and had to sort of push/pull her into the water the first time. Then it was all good. J. and I stood at either end and threw her ‘duck’ (a bright floating toy) back and forth while she swam back and forth. We played ‘keep away’ and hide and go seek with the duck. We had a really good time.
I don’t know that I’d do it again any time soon. There was a lot of chlorine in the water and Sasha didn’t get as much of a workout as we expected (the current was nothing for her). But it was fun to do nonetheless.
Today I turn 43.
Today I close the door on the last year, the Lost Year (as it will henceforth be known.)
Today I move forward into a new adventure.
The move went well, if long. I theoretically took the week afterwards off from work, but the reality was that I still ended up working almost every day, which made for long, busier-than-I-wanted days and a very tired me.
We had a few mishaps: the ‘swedish’ daybed didn’t fit – by ½”! – into the library, one bookshelf (one of the newest ones!) completely disintegrated, the china cabinet didn’t look ‘right’ where we originally placed it. John was shuttling art, electronics, and plants back and forth, and we frequently missed one another between the houses. But we worked everything out (John bought a saw and took an inch off the legs, we decided to buy a replacement, and we had the movers move the cabinet to an alternate location, where it did look right).
This is it until we’re in the new place, and have Internet access again. Here’s hoping the move goes well.
We’re not completely packed, but we’ve run out of room to stack boxes. So I’ll be packing the kitchen and closets while the movers do their thing. After J. drops off Sasha at Soos Creek Kennels, he will be ferrying artwork and other precious items up to the new place.
It’s finally happening. After months of prep and work, its finally here.
Until the next time . . .
I am now the proud, poor, owner of two domiciles. I owe so much money to large institutions I am more than a little freaked out.
I am so grateful for J. and his calm calm calm demeanor.
I kind of feel like this:
(and yes, I am sure I will feel happy, excited, and all of that good stuff soon.)
I stopped by the new house yesterday to meet our would-be painter, Michael. We have CARPET!
Want to see? (Of course you do!)
