February Update at Facing North

We have a great lineup of reviews this month.

Several fiction items:
How to Knit a Heart Back Home — which will debut in March
Halfway Hexed

A bunch of Megalithica/Immanion Press titles:
Mastering the Art of Ritual Magick, volumes 1, 2 and 3
Women’s Voices In Magic
Space/ Time Magic
Quantum Sorcery

And a variety of tarot-related items by our newest reviewer, Rev. John Marani, Jr.
Hallmark Tarot
Imperial Dragon Oracle Deck
Tarot 101: Mastering the Art of Reading the Cards
Tarot Dynamics

I highly recommend John’s article: “Turning Off the Faucet: Setting Boundaries for Clients, Relatives, and Friends in Tarot Readings.” It is a must-read for anyone who provides occult services (not just tarot!) to others.

Rev. John Marani, Jr., has been studying the tarot since 1989, and began his professional tarot practice in 2005. He is a Certified Tarot Consultant from the Tarot Certification Board of America, a member of the American Tarot Association (ATA) , and a regular article contributor to the ATA Quarterly Journal. John studies Witchcraft with Tradition of the Witches Circle (TWC) in Occoquan, VA, with its Head High Priestess and founder, Rev. Samantha Harvey. He is the Head High Priest in Training and the Priest of Tarot for the TWC, and teaches astrology, Reiki, and tarot classes at 13 Magickal Moons of Occoquan, VA, where he also regularly reads tarot and does astrology consultations. John is an ordained Minister with the Ministry of Light Interfaith Church in Occoquan, VA. In his spare time, John is a Dungeon Master, and die-hard computer and console gamer.

Finally, we are featuring an excellent article from a new author, Lewis Richmond, “We Age From Our First Breath, ” author of the forthcoming Aging as a Spiritual Practice: A Contemplative Guide to Growing Older and Wiser.

I forgot to mention

that I was also scheduled for an MRI yesterday.

It didn’t go so well.

The MRI went badly — I couldn’t finish it. I’d forgotten that they would have to inject me with a dye (for the contrast) and that makes a 15 min process more like 30. Mentally I could deal with that, but then my shoulder started to cramp up and I had waves of pain. . . I was working the relaxation imagery and calm breathing …like nobody’s business, all to no avail.

Moreover, the machine was unable to ‘find’ a series of images and they had to be redone, so my 15 mins of initial images turned into 30. I could NOT stand it anymore and I pulled the plug on the entire event.

But I still have to do it. I’m wondering if taking a muscle relaxant will help?

In other news, the class was fine. I’m sure you’ll be surprised that I was singled out as a leader (“But you’re so articulate!”) and have form/joined a study group.

Kind of nervous

I’m kind of nervous. I’m going back to school tonight.

It’s a study prep course for the SPHR exam — the highest level of certification in the HR world. It only has a 54% pass rate, so I am probably not going to pass it the first time around . .. and that’s why I’m taking the night class.

It’s been awhile since I was in school. I hope I remember how to learn.

Pagan Predators Article Reprinted

hey — my article “Pagan Predators” has been reprinted in the new Wicca Spirit Newsletter (available through this link). It’s kind of cool that something I wrote several years ago remains fresh.

Moreover, that particular article remains one of my favorite. It was honest and provocative.

For my writer friends: this is a new gig (non paying) for your work.

For everyone: check it out!
