June Update at Facing North

One of the largest collections of reviews of Neopagan/ Spiritual/ New Age oriented books, music, and other items of interest to our community has updated it’s offering.

June’s offerings include reviews of:
Living Temple of Witchcraft, pt 2
Worldshift 2012
Mala of the Heart
Weiser’s Field Guide to Cryptozoology
Weiser Field Guide to Ascension
The Mindfulness Code
The Compassionate Life
Emotional Wisdom
Single Woman of A Certain Age

We also have three excerpt/articles from Daphne Rose Kingma’s new book The Ten Things to do When Your Life Falls Apart.

As always we welcome your feedback. If there is something you’d like to see reviewed — let us know!

Opened on October 31, 2006 with just over 200 reviews, Facing North is — first and foremost — a community resource. We closed out 2006 with more than double our opening number of reviews (500+). Although we slowed our growth, 2007 ended with our database at more than 600 records, 2008 saw us at 900 and we edged over 1,000 by the end of 2009.

We are committed to creating a practical site with honest opinions that are fair, even when critical. A site that everyone in our diverse community can use. I always welcome your feedback and suggestions at: lisa_at_facingnorth.net.

February Facing North Update

Spring is coming and we’ve updated our offerings!

To start, we have two articles. The first is from Connie Domino, MPh, RN, and talks about leaders and forgiveness. The second is from Lawrence Ellyard and disccuses the seven steps to recession-proofing your natural therapy business.

Then we have ten new reviews, our usual mix of items of interest to the community. Two older books by Lupa are reviewed by Daven, along with my first book, The Virtual Pagan.

Hot off the presses, we have reviews of Crafting a Magical Life, Creating Trance & Hypnosis Scripts, 7 Great Prayers, The Magician’s Way, Voudou Money Magic, and Forbidden Rites. Rounding all of this out is a review for the CD Dancing with Hecate from our newest reviewer, Katsai.

Facing North Update!

It’s our second update this month, with 11 reviews added. This brings our annual total to more than 100  . . . we’re not yet at 1000 reviews, but that number draws closer.

Our update includes reviews from Daven of Davensjournal. We’re glad to have him sharing his writings with us and look forward to continuing to do so. We have also reviewed a number of annuals — perfect gifts for the holidays. When you add in Christopher Penzak’s Living Temple of Witchcraft, Vol 1, Kenaz Filan’s Drawing Down the Spirits, and others, you have our usual eclectic mix of opinions.

We have a review of the acoustic CD, Light Returning and five books, including the Pop Culture Grimoire, White as Bone, Red as Blood, Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells, the Green Wiccan Year, and the Gong Hee Fot Choy Book of Fortune.

Finally, we’ve published a timely article about what 2010 holds for each of the zodiac signs from the authors of Astrology Guide 2010 along with Connie Domino’s article ”Working with Difficult People.”

Facing North News

I’m a bit late with my November update at Facing North — I have about 20 reviews in various states of progress and another 1/2 dozen or so from other people.

I may end up doing two updates in December. But I’m trying for at least a small update this weekend.

In other news, Jason Pitzl-Waters of The Wild Hunt has made Facing North an affiliate which is great news. I’m darn proud of my review site, and all of the hard work my reviewers put into the 100s of reviews we’ve written. Hopefully the affiliation will draw more attention to the site and get us into an even busier place.

August Facing North Update!

We have a nice collection of reviews this month, some older (like Sacred Places of the Goddess) and some published this year (such as Egyptian Revenge Spells). We reviewed a book of poetry (The Dancing God) and an atheist’s perspective (The Atheist’s Way)

We also have two excerpts from Robert Mack’s Happiness from the Inside Out: Lessons Learned from the Wizard of Oz and Telling a Happier Story. Finally, we have a lovely interview with Robert Mack — if you’re feeling pessimistic or ‘down’ you’ll want to read it.

September’s reviews are coming along nicely and include a 2nd review of The Dancing God, a new mystery from the fabulous Barbara Bretton, and a 2-disk collection of word and music meditation from Sharon West.

Facing North Updated

Personal events kept me from updating in June, so we have a double-sized collection for you this month. Highlights include:

  • A article about dealing with adversity from Alison Bonds Shapiro, author of Healing Into Possibility.
  • An excerpt from Robert Mack’s Happiness from the Inside Out, focusing on appreciating your self.
  • Two interviews, one from Marc Lesser (author of Less: Accomplishing More by Doing Less) and the other with Brooks Palmer (author of Clutter Busting).
  • One music review and 20 book reviews.

I always welcome feedback and suggestions.
